I’ve been told don’t sell family heirlooms - however I am 60 yrs old, and it is time for someone else enjoy this wonderful piece of history that survived time!
This Bayonet was brought back by a returning U.S. Amy Veteran from Huntington, WV (My Uncle - See photo of DD-214). My uncle used to tell me about where he went and what he did. I still have his V-Mail that he sent back home to my Grandparents - along with other items he brought back. This piece of history has been in my family since WWll ended. The Bayonet has never been professionally cleaned other than being wiped off with a gun oil cloth!
NOTE: You will receive a “photo copy” of the DD-214, and a “photo copy” of my uncle’s U.S. Army ID card.
The Bayonet is made of bakelite grips (dark color) and steel, this early-war well made German K98 Combat Bayonet is in good condition considering it's age. The maker marks indicated it was Manufactured by the W.K.C. firm under the letter code “cvl” in 1941 by Weyersburg Kirschbaum Co. of Solingen. The Bayonet is properly marked - Inside and Out.
I understand it’s rare to have the parts make up the Bayonet and have matching numbers! I have carefully taken the grips a part so you can see the markings contained.
I believe I am the only seller to do this. This shows the Bayonet was not pieced together from several parts to make a Bayonet!
I think it is important for you to see what I see. Maybe your professional eye may notice something I did not.
With war items 80 plus years old - There is some slight marks due to the age, but otherwise it is in good used condition! The blade does show some marks, stains, and wear.
The Bayonet features dark brown bakelite grips. The flash guard, and backside of the grips are marked with matching serial numbers 7624, other German production marks, including WaffenAmpt and German Eagle. The Bakelite grips are nice and tight - and have manufacturers marks.
There is No loss to the blade tip and the edge has not been sharpened. Pommel and cross guard have wear with surface rust and scratches. The pommel is in good shape as well with a perfectly functioning mortise button. There is a WaffenAmpt on the reverse pommel and one on the mortise button.
The finial or ball end is stamped with a Waffenampt. The blade slides in and out smoothly. There is a small amount of original finish left on the blade. The original frog is in poor condition.
The Scabbard has wear with scratches and surface rust. Scabbard has minor dents. The spring screw is intact. Overall length including the scabbard measures approximately 16 inches.
Don't miss your chance to own a Matching Number WW2 German bayonet. Please let me know if you need any other pictures.
Please Note: I am NOT a professional collector. I have included photos of all sides of this item for you to grade for yourself. Any attempt that I make to assign an official “grade" would be way out of my area of expertise, and qualification. What YOU think is what really counts!
This item is a wonderful piece and as time goes by these REAL bayonets will be harder to find. This is a great addition to any collection! This is the actual item that you will receive!
This Bayonet has never been professionally cleaned or re-blued. It has not been all cleaned up - You can see the history in this Bayonet. However, I believe an individual who knows what they are doing and wishes to professionally clean or restore this can make this K98 look really sharp.
However, I am Not that person! I believe it is better to leave it as history presented to us! Time shows the Bayonet has not been altered - you can still feel the Original HISTORY in your hands.
